THANK YOU to all the keynote speakers, participants, and partners who contributed to the resounding success of the first student-led academic conference on Global South humanities and social sciences.
GLOBAL SOUTH PARADIGMS is innovative: free, interdisciplinary, student-led, organized by the Nexus Journal at South-North Scholars and supported by the International Public Policy Association via colleagues at the Global South Policy Process Research Network constituency.
We express our deep gratitude to our collaborators at Duke University and the Duke Kunshan University Humanities Research Center for their generous support and mentorship. (Our sponsors do not review, control, or endorse any specific conference activities or statements.)

REIMAGINE RESEARCH BY AND FOR THE GLOBAL SOUTH.
The burgeoning and interconnected fields of Global South public policy, humanities, and other academic disciplines demand fresh perspectives from the very communities these disciplines seek to empower.
Hosted by South-North Scholars (the youth-led global knowledge network) with support from the GSPPRN constituency of the International Public Policy Association (the top-level academic network for the global public policy field), Global South Paradigms welcomed graduate students, undergraduates, and early career faculty from 35 countries pursuing research or practice on Global South contexts and Global South issues. Together, we engaged in critical dialogue and collaborative brainstorming around the current and future directions of “Global South research” – i.e., research on Global South issues – both within and across disciplinary boundaries.
IN 2024, WE ADVANCED INNOVATIVE RESEARCH ON THE GLOBAL SOUTH WITH 20+ RESEARCH PRESENTATIONS.
We heard from distinguished professors and scholars at institutions worldwide, including Duke University (US), the University of Sussex (UK), Delhi University (India), Université de Yaounde II (Cameroon), and Duke Kunshan University (China).
As a platform for cutting-edge research, Global South Paradigms sought paper presentations and lectures that developed humanities and/or social science perspectives on:
The histories, cultures, and movements of the Global South
Global South-led sustainable development and climate action
International relations and political economy from a Global South perspective
Conflict, displacement, and migration between/to/from the Global South
To ensure diverse participation, there were no fees charged for conference attendance, paper submission, or paper presentation.
Papers selected for presentation or inclusion were eligible to be:
published digitally in conference proceedings,
considered for peer editing and in-print publication in the Nexus Global South Journal,
circulated within our global academic networks of leading faculty mentors and graduate students at top institutions such as Duke and Harvard.
