 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • We accept submissions from undergraduate students studying any subject at any accredited institution of higher education, anywhere in the world. Co-authored submissions are also accepted as long as at least 1 author is an undergraduate student. At this time, we only accept submissions in English.

  • We accept academic research articles, essays (including thoughtful editorials and opinion pieces), and artwork with an accompanying artist’s statement. All submissions must explore themes and challenges facing the Global South. As a journal we do not adhere to a single rigid definition of the Global South, but it is generally understood to mean developing regions of the world, including relevant communities within otherwise “developed” countries (e.g. Indigenous communities and regions).

We also welcome interdisciplinary submissions crossing multiple fields under the four major topics outlined above. There is no word limit and you may submit multiple articles or pieces (please do so in separate submissions and ensure each submission follows the guidelines, e.g. including a separate artist’s statement with each artwork).

Even if you don’t feel like your work falls under one of the four major topics outlined above, we would still love to consider your work and encourage you to submit!

  • Generally, you will hear back about submissions by approximately 1 week after the submission deadline. If the submission is accepted, you will receive the first draft back for further editing soon after.

  • Nexus has a four-stage review process, which includes the editorial board review, internal peer review amongst the authors, external peer review by graduate students, and professional copy editing. The process is designed to ensure a high degree of intellectual involvement as well as the quality of the publication.
